We are sold out of this year's olive oil until the harvest later this year.
Our good friends Angela Karanzouli and Panos Alonistiotis along with their wonderful children Melina and Patroklos are the 4th generation owners of their orchard in nearby Lerkeia. Each year the family harvests the olives, processes them at the local press, and store the oil for sale. We have been so fortunate to import their oil while our trees are maturing. Aloni Olive Oil is exquisite, bringing forth the age of the trees, the consistency of the soil, and the care of the family.
Panos Alonistiotis writes:
Our family shares common roots with our olive trees. My grandfather, Panagiotis, stayed behind in the village while the other brothers and sisters immigrated to the United States in order to find a better life.
My grandfather loved this place and decided to stay here and continue the agricultural tradition of his family. He married Sophia and they inherited the land from my great grandparents. They worked hard everyday, raising the olive trees and planting more. They had four children. It was my father Patroklos who decided to continue cultivating the trees. The other brothers and sisters went to the university or tried to find a better life abroad.
I grew up playing around those trees and I still remember this unique landscape while harvesting with parents and grandparents after school. Now it’s me and my family who have inherited this treasured land. We cultivate the olive trees every year and we plan on expanding our family oil production.
Throughout the years we have been taught to cultivate with the same love of our trees that my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents had. Our trees are not only memories of the past but also a way of improving the future. We will tend this unique and beautiful property plan to pass it to our children Patroklos and Melina.
